My Story

I actually didn’t convince my husband to take our yearlong sabbatical around the world.

That may seem like a silly thing to say when I’m offering to help you get your partner (or yourself) fully on board with this “pipe dream” of traveling long-term.

I got him about 90% there (over months!), but it was his boss that tipped the scales to turn his No into a Yes. She told him he’d be crazy NOT to take the chance to travel the world.

My husband (shockingly) agreed to do an interview with me about that process. Watch to see his initial objections - job/career, money, etc - how it all turned out when we got home, and his perspective from a decade after the trip.

Here’s the thing, objective third parties - completely outside the relationship with different perspectives - can be the ticket to getting what you want.

Let’s be real - you don’t always listen to your partner. Think of a time when you did something because a friend or even a stranger on the internet told you to…and your partner exclaimed they told you about it AGES ago!

I can say the same thing as you, but it’ll land differently coming from me. It’s frustrating, but true.

If you know anything about the Enneagram, I’m a 9 - The Peacemaker. My superpower is seeing different perspectives equally, bringing people together, and solving conflicts. That’s the perfect alignment for this service.

Note for the Practical Partners in the Relationship…

P.S. If you’re reading this because your partner with big travel dreams wants to do this, you’re probably wondering if I will take their side. The answer is, No. My job is to guide the exploration of this idea, taking all perspectives into account and advising you on the best next steps for you both.

Would I love for you to decide to travel long-term? Yes, absolutely! But only if you’re aligned - if one partner is not committed, then it’ll create bigger issues. Remember it’s normal to be anxious/concerned/scared when doing something you’ve never done before, especially something that’s not deemed as “normal” by society.

Lastly, know that this dream your partner has is not one that will just go away. It’ll remain in their heart whether they voice it or not. It would mean the world to them to give this idea a fair shot. Even if the decision ends up being, Not right now.

Practical partners need the Dreamers in life and vice versa - it’s the yin and yang to all relationships. When you’re aligned, you’re unstoppable.
